Head Constable Abdul Ahad Jan of Ajas Bandipora has been sent to police remand till August 21. Jan hurled a shoe on chief minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday. Police produced Abdul Ahad Jan, suspended cop, before the court of Forest Magistrate, Masrat Roohi, for seeking the remand. An FIR no. 70 under section 447A, 352 and 124A of RPC was registered. If convicted Jan is likely to be sentenced for life or three years and fine.

Police said that a 50-year-old house wife, Taja Begum, was beaten to death by her husband, Habib Doie, at Harden Khayar of south Kashmir’s Islamabad district. Husband is absconding and police have started search operation.

A 48-year-old man, Abdul Gaffar Khan son of Mohammad Sultan Khan of Shunglipora, was killed after a shell exploded in Tosa Maidan firing range area of Khag, Budgam district. On July 27 last, five persons, including an army soldier and a policeman, were injured when they fiddled with an unexploded shell in same area. Tosa Maidan is also a tourist spot apart from feed firing range.

He left for Srinagar to purchase house hold goods on July 1. Since then, his whereabouts are unknown. Last week, the family approached police and filed a missing complaint.

Murder attempt foiled, two held: Police
Kashmir Ethnic News Desk | 29 July 2010: Police on Thursday claimed to have foiled the attempted murder of a youth by arresting two people from Soura area of Srinagar.
Hilal Anchoo alias Sahba, a junior assistant in Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and his accomplice Sajad Ahmad Misgar, a daily wage employee of Public Health Engineering (PHE) department were arrested by a police party when they were trying to strangulate a youth identified as Haneef Ahmad Bhat on the Ali Jan Memorial Road, Soura last night.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Hazratbal, Maqsood-ul-Zaman told media that police received a tip-off from an anonymous caller and immediately rushed to the spot.
“The accused were trying to strangulate the youth inside a cab. The rescued youth had visible marks of injury on his body,” Zaman said.
Speaking about the motive, Zaman said Haneef and Hilal’s sister were in love and had entered into wedlock against the wishes of the family.
“To take revenge, Hilal conspired with his friend Sajad to murder his brother-in-law. Last night police foiled the attempt and arrested them red-handed. Sharp edged weapons, rope and iron rods were recovered from the spot,” he added.
Meanwhile, police has registered a case against the duo and started further investigations.
